By on December 17, 2015

Following feedback from anglers throughout the state of Wisconsin and an extensive public review, officials from the state’s department of natural resources have decided to extend the trout catch-and-release fishing season by practically two months. The new season will start at 5 a.m. on Jan. 2 and run through May 6 in 2016.

By expanding the catch-and-release trout fishing season, trout specialists say that anglers throughout the state will have more exciting opportunities to catch fish. In addition, the expanded season will very likely recruit more fishermen to take part in trout fishing, providing possible economic benefits.

The expanded season is to be held on most of the state’s waterways. The previous season ran from early March through the end of April each year.
