The No.1-ranked college fishing team in the fall was from a school you’ve probably never heard of: Adrian College. The small, liberal arts school, is based in Adrian, Michigan, and has struggled in recent years to attract students.

Administrators with the school are hoping the fishing program’s success, marked by the top ranking in just its first year, can help to attract students. The team has a lot of support from the school to be thankful for, including a full-time coach (key for recruiting), two Ranger boats and team trucks. The up-and-coming anglers also have a travel budget and a few team sponsors.

The fishing program is not the only varsity sport that the school has added in an effort to boost enrollment, according to the Detroit Free Press. Others include figure skating, bowling and wrestling.
