FishSens Pro Brandon Card fished his first Bassmaster Classic on Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees in 2013. Since then, he has had some time to reflect on his first try at the Tulsa, Oklahoma lake and he plans to update his approach for the upcoming 2016 GEICO Bassmaster Classic.

In a talk with BassFan, Card details some of the history he’s had on the lake, including the realization that he fished it a little too fast in 2013, when water temperatures were down around 40 degrees. At that time, he tried out a jerkbait but didn’t have much success. What he should have done, he says, is slow down and work a jig and a crankbait with more patience.

Looking back, Card says that he has been able to find success when fishing a waterway for the second time. And he’s looking forward to getting another shot at Grand Lake in March. It’s tough when things don’t work out the first time around, but coming back armed with more knowledge on a waterway lets him fish a lot smarter.
